violations of human rights in vietnam
For the past few years, we have witnessed an increasing trend of repression and punishment inflicted on individuals and groups fighting for universal human rights in Vietnam, including a number of human rights defenders, bloggers, writers, journalists, lawyers and even public demonstration groups. Many of them have been intimidated, arrested, convicted of subversion crimes and even sentenced to long-term imprisonment. Such actions taken against human rights activism have displayed deliberate violations of human rights on the Vietnamese government's side. The crackdowns have been on several basic human rights; however, the most severe cases involve people's freedom of association/assembly, freedom of speech and the press, and physical inviolability.
